The South African Literacy Association (SALA) held its 2019 Semifinals for the Grade 11 Division, KZN Midlands Region. This competition allows learners from Grade 1 to 12 a tremendous opportunity to showcase their public speaking skills on a national platform.
This year, five of the top orators from Newcastle High School went through to this exciting and challenging round. Saejal Sewnath, Nonhle Nkabinde, Hlelelwa Msibi, Iziphozonke Mlambo and Miksha Maharaj proudly represented their school at this prestigious competition.
All five learners impressed their audience with their wit and topic selections. There was great camaraderie amongst the learners who supported each other throughout the event with humour and high fives. The learners spoke well and had enthusiasm as well as respect for their craft and their competitors. The proposed date for the national finals is 12 October 2019.
